Adoption from Burkina Faso- A 2017 Spotlight!

When we started working in Burkina Faso in 2014, we never could have predicted the success we would witness three years later! Thus far in our program, we’ve seen six children, ages one to fourteen years old, matched with their forever families.

This year, MLJ Adoptions received four referrals for single children ranging in age from just under two years old to fifteen years old! Two of these families sought adoptions with children from the quarterly special needs list. The other two families were matched directly by the Central Authority.

The families all waited 12 months or less to be matched with their children! One family, seeking to adopt an older child, waited one month from their dossier’s submission to being matched with their son. On average, families adopting from Burkina Faso waited 6.25 months to be matched with children this year. Once a family has been matched with a child, we estimate that the child will come home in 9-14 months.

We continue to see a need for families to be open to children with additional needs, including Hepatitis B, Sickle Cell, children born of incestuous relationships, children born to “mentally ill” birth mothers, mental handicaps, deformed limbs, deaf-mute, developmental delays and malnutrition.

In addition to the four children matched with MLJ Adoptions’ families adopting from Burkina Faso this year, our first child came home to his forever family in April!

We continue to work alongside the Central Authority in Burkina Faso to advocate for vulnerable children in addition to supporting adoptive families. If you’re interested in joining us as we care for children in Burkina Faso, you can make a tax-deductible donation.

If your family is seeking to adopt from a stable, predictable country program that meets the critical need for adoption from Africa, adopting from Burkina Faso could be a great fit!

MLJ Adoptions is thankful for another year of serving vulnerable children and families adopting from Burkina Faso! We cannot wait to see what 2018 has in store for our families and the worthy children waiting for them.
