Title at MLJ: Adoption Attorney and Chief of Staff

What do you actually DO with MLJ? My focus includes external relations and internal operations, developing and drafting policies and procedures, managing quality improvement, and providing legal services. Families are most likely to run into me after their adoptions have been completed, particularly if they reside in Indiana; I handle the readoption process for our Indiana clients.

What is your favorite part about what you do with MLJ? I am very fortunate to have a job where what I do makes a positive difference in the lives of others. It is extremely rewarding, fulfilling, and makes it pretty easy to get up in the mornings!

How long have you worked with MLJ? I have been working at MLJ since January, coming on full-time in September.

What do you love about adoption? I love that adoption can enrich and change the entire course of a child’s life by providing that child with a permanent, stable, secure and loving home.

If you could change one thing about adoption what would it be, why, and how? I would want to ensure that every single last adoption was done in a completely ethical manner. Every one suffers when adoptions are done unethically, including children, biological families, and adoptive families. I am very proud to work for an organization that provides adoption services that are ethical and in the best interests of children.

What is one thing you wish more people understood about the adoption process? The process of adoption is one that is intricate and complex. It involves individuals and entities at the local, state, and federal levels, as well as foreign individuals, entities, and governments. Thus, the costs associated with adoption must go in many different directions and cover many different services.

What do you want to tell us about your family? I come from a close, tightknit family that I adore spending time with.

When not working, what do you do for fun or to relax? I love working on home improvement projects, gardening, catching up on blogs, and reading.

Any other fun, interesting facts about you? I am a notorious bargain shopper. Practically everything I own has come from a thrift shop, clearance bin, consignment store, online auction site, or Craigslist. There’s not much I will willingly pay full price for!
