Name: Nikki Lux
Title at MLJ: Adoption Preparation Coordinator
What do you actually DO with MLJ?: I conduct home studies for parents interested in adoption. I teach the core and elective classes that are needed, both online and in the classroom.
What is your favorite part about what you do with MLJ?: I enjoy meeting the new adoptive parents and hearing about why they are interested in adopting a kiddo from overseas. Everyone has a unique story!
How long have you worked with MLJ?: A week, but loving every minute of it!
What do you think makes you excellent at what you do?: I still have a lot to learn, but I think that I am very organized and outgoing. This makes meeting new people and getting paperwork done on time a little easier. I also have a passion for learning, so understanding why individuals want to adopt and discovering what drives their passion is a bonus in this line of work!
What do you love about adoption?: I love that children that don’t have a chance to find a family within their own country, have the ability to find a family from somewhere else in the world that will love and provide for them.
If you could change one thing about adoption what would it be, why, and how?: I definitely think the timing of the process can seem to go on forever! However, I’m not sure how this could be cut down as the necessaries have to be completed to ensure safety and a smooth transition for both family and child.
What is one thing you wish more people understood about the adoption process?: I think sometimes people misunderstand how stressful this process can be. I think it’s wonderful that MLJ Adoptions works hard to ensure that parents are given every bit of information that is available from start to finish of this process.
What do you want to tell us about your family?: I have been married for a year. I have three dogs that run my household, and am expecting my first little one in May 2014!
When not working, what do you do for fun or to relax?: I like being outside in the sun! My husband and I do a lot of camping, hiking, and working out. When we’re not doing any of these things I can be found napping, reading, blogging, or watching movies.
Any other fun, interesting facts about you?: I was in the United States Marine Corps for six years and I love the smell of fresh cut grass. (It always reminds me of coming home from my travels!)
