Name: Stacy Jacobs
Title at MLJ: Administrative Assistant
What do you actually DO with MLJ: I do typical office work. I answer the phone, file many types of paperwork, sort the mail, make copies, and anything else that a director might need help doing.
What is your favorite part about what you do with MLJ: As an adoptive mom, I just enjoy being connected to the adoption community. It is fun knowing that even a small thing like filing paperwork, is a part the big picture of an adoption.
What is the hardest part about what you do: Well, I am still fairly new here, so the hardest part has been learning all of the policies and procedures that must be followed.
How long have you worked with MLJ: I started working for MLJ at the beginning of March.
What do you love about working with MLJ: The other staff members are very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly.
How long have you worked in adoption: This is my first experience working in adoption, but I have gone through the process of adopting internationally as a parent so adoption is not totally new to me.
What other positions have you held: In the past I have taught preschool and provided childcare. Additionally, my husband and I own a small business for which I do all of the administrative work.
Education: I have a BS in Elementary Education from Indiana University.
What do you think makes you excellent at what you do: I am a people person. I am organized and work hard. Also, I can understand the clients’ perspective having experienced the adoption process.
What do you love about adoption: I think it is such a miracle to see families formed through adoption.
If you could change one thing about adoption what would it be, why, and how: Sometimes adoptions take a really long time to complete, which can be very stressful and frustrating for the parents. Unfortunately this is not an aspect of adoption that can necessarily be changed.
What is one thing you wish more people understood about the adoption process: It is not easy, but it is well worth it!
What do you want to tell us about your family: I have been married to Bob for 17 years; we have four children – Ashley (16), Abigail (13), Alaina (12), and Daniel (6). Daniel was born in Guatemala and joined our family through the miracle of adoption when he was six months old.
When not working, what do you do for fun or to relax: I like reading and playing volleyball. I also enjoy attending all of my kids’ events and activities.
Favorite adoption book, movie: I love the children’s book called I Wished for You by Marianne Richmond. I also really liked the movie Bella.
