For the employees of MLJ Adoptions, adoption is not just a profession, but a personal passion. Camie Schuiteman is the perfect example of how adoption is not only her day job, but also one of her favorite ways to serve others and advocate for the orphan. In addition to home schooling her children and assisting her husband in his role as a pastor, Camie is the Financial Resources Coordinator at MLJ Adoptions.
Guided by the Biblical mandate of James 1:27, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world,” Camie’s family began their own adoption journey of two Vietnamese toddlers in 2006. Through her family’s call to adoption, Camie’s personal passion grew. In order to finance their adoption journey, Camie, her husband and her family were able to raise $50,000. Throughout their adoption journey, the Schuitemans realized the power of prayer, family and church support in financing an adoption.
After her two children joined their family, Camie desired to assist and encourage other families on their adoption journey. Camie’s positivity and enthusiasm are contagious; after her family’s adoption, four other families in their church congregation began their own adoption journeys. Each adoption journey is different, with various twists and turns, including through the quest to financing the adoption. Camie has created a Financial Resources Guide, which is available to all adoptive families as they seek to finance their adoptions. She works diligently to research new fundraising and grant opportunities available to families. Camie assists our MLJ Adoptions families by offering to review grant applications, be available for questions via email and by hosting Affording Adoption seminars in the Indianapolis office. Camie’s personal passion for the fatherless and vulnerable children make her a true asset to both MLJ Adoptions and our adoptive families.
Camie will be conducting her next Affording Adoption Seminar on Saturday, December 6 at 10:00am in our offices located at 617 E. North Street, Indianapolis, IN. We invite all prospective adoptive parents and families in process to attend. You may RSVP here.
