We are excitedly preparing to celebrate with parents who have adopted from Africa, as well as those who are waiting or seeking to adopt from Africa.

Celebrating African culture and adoption with families, in a relaxed and fun atmosphere, is something our domestic and international staff enjoys as well. This year we are happy to share that some of our Kinshasa, DRC staff will be in attendance at the Africa party!  Two of our foreign staff attorneys, who our adoptive parents know as Ety and Serge, are traveling to the U.S. to attend the event and to see the parents and children they’ve worked with in the past. This is an opportunity for our adoptive parents and children to spend time with, mingle and reconnect with our Congo staff.

The celebration of Africa features African food, music and fun learning activities for children. The event also highlights the need for adoption in Africa: with an estimated 34 million orphans in Africa, the need for forever families is great and grows with each passing day.  The orphan population worldwide is now estimated at 160 – 210 million children, an all-time high (Orphan World Relief). Orphan numbers are increasing due to poverty, war and preventable diseases. With these numbers rising, the need for adoption from Africa continues to be on the forefront.

In addition to sharing with families who adopted from Congo, this year through MLJ’s Individualized Country Programs (through which we provide services to families adopting across the globe), MLJ is happy to invite families who have adopted from Zimbabwe, Liberia, Tanzania and Sudan, all countries in need of international adoption as well.

We’ve also expanded our services to find loving homes for children in need from Burkina Faso.  MLJ’s Burkina Faso program has been growing by leaps and bounds as we spread awareness of the need in this little-known African country. Burkina Faso is signatory to The Hague Convention, so adoptive parents are afforded protections during their adoption process.

This event is always one of the year’s highlights for MLJ staff and adoptive families.  Please come celebrate with us this year:
