This year has been a whirlwind for MLJ Adoptions! It’s both a privilege and a responsibility to be able to advocate for our world’s most vulnerable children. Each and every day our team is thankful we are invited to play a role in caring for unparented children in Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Samoa and Ukraine.
Thirty-five children joined forever families from nine different countries with the assistance of MLJ Adoptions and our brave adoptive families. Of these children, fourteen were considered to have special needs either because of their age, medical diagnoses or because they were part of a large sibling group.
In 2017, we had 19 children join families from Bulgaria! This is the most successful year that the program has seen since we started working there.
We placed our first child from Burkina Faso! Additionally, four children were matched with families, and we hope to see them come home in 2018.
Two thousand seventeen brought a partnership with Host Ukraine! MLJ Adoptions is excited to better advocate for older orphaned children in Ukraine by assisting families who participate in hosting with Host Ukraine with their adoption journeys.
This year, we opened a new country program in Peru! This program will allow us to advocate for older children, children with additional needs and sibling groups from Latin America.
Even though 2017 is coming to a close, we are eager to continue working on behalf of orphaned and vulnerable children and the families who choose to adopt them. As we celebrate the success stories, our hearts are burdened for children who remain unparented and in hard situations. There are countless children with special needs waiting for their adoptive families. We continue to be committed to finding these children the families they deserve and supporting their families during and after the adoption.
