There are many adoption agencies that can assist you in adopting a child through international adoption. Each agency has its own strengths and weaknesses. What should you look at when selecting a partner for your adoption journey? Here are five reasons why you may want to choose MLJ Adoptions.
- Experience – Collectively, we have decades of experience providing adoption services. Our interdisciplinary staff includes three adoption attorneys, social workers, a financial resources coordinator and adoptive parents. We are committed to continuing education in adoption, attending adoption conferences and taking classes to further our knowledge on all areas of adoption.
- Guidance – Our team provides guidance to families from start to finish on their adoption journeys, from dossier preparation to assistance in country. The program director or her assistant, who are constantly communicating will our Foreign Supervised Providers, will be giving you updates and keeping you informed about the program. They will be with you each step of the way, providing encouragement and practical tips to make your adoption journey as smooth as possible. Our program directors, Lydia Tarr and Sonja Brown, have united more than 180 children with their forever families.
- Community Building – We are committed to community building among our families. We host events throughout the year to celebrate adoption. Our events celebrate the culture of the countries where we serve, in addition to creating an environment where families can connect with one another. We encourage our families to participate on our private, online forums where they can receive support from one another.
- Support – We provide support to our families during each stage of the process through our Client Care Database, online forums and country-specific support groups. Our staff is knowledgeable about attachment, bonding and other adoption related issues. Five of our staff members are certified in Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), a style of parenting thought by many to be the best type of parenting for children who were adopted. TBRI balances nurture and structure with the main purpose of connecting with the child, even when the child’s behavior requires correction.
- Advocates for Children in Need – We tirelessly advocate for children in need of families globally. Our three staff attorneys remain on top of legal and social efforts to support the children and families we serve. We engage in advocacy efforts agency-wide and encourage our families to advocate alongside us. Our advocacy efforts include, but are not limited to, Children in Families First (CHIFF) and the Adoption Tax Credit, both on a state and a national level.
