Former Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Films on Location in Bulgaria

Former California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, arrived in Sophia, the Bulgarian capital city earlier this month to film The Expendables 2. He tweeted “Back in action for The Expendables 2! I’m having a fantastic time on set with Bruce and Sly in Bulgaria”. He included a photo of himself from the film set with co-stars Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis.

Other stars of The Expendables 2 include Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Nicolas Cage and Jean-Claude van Damme. The film is being directed by Simon West, who previously directed Lara Croft: Tomb Raider andCon Air.

In interviews with local media, Schwarzenegger said he was pleased to be in Bulgaria, which he described as an extremely beautiful country. The vast majority of the 14 week production forThe Expendables 2 will take place in and around Bulgaria in cooperation with Nu Boyana Film Studios. It is the largest film production studio in Bulgaria. 180 feature films including Black Dahlia and Conan have been filmed in its studios.

Schwarzenegger took time out from filming to meet with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. They expressed their common opinion that the film industry is a successful tool for stimulating economic development and job creation. Prime Minister Borisov said the Bulgarian government had made many efforts to achieve results in the area of film and theater production.

The Expendables 2 is expected to be released in August of 2012.
