If youâre considering international adoption, chances are, youâre already overwhelmed!
The internet is a wonderful, beautiful place, until itâs not. Information overload happens so quickly, adoption stories can be so emotional, and before you know it, you have headed down a rabbit trail of adoption nightmares and worst case scenarios with tears in your eyes because the children are so beautiful and yet the process seems so difficult. A lot of our clients begin their research into international adoption with excitement, only to be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information available, and confused about how it might apply to them.
But not to worry! MLJ Adoptions offers free Initial Consultations with the express purpose of helping you process all of this information. In your Initial Consultation, you will be asked questions about your age, the length of your marriage (if applicable), the characteristics of the child you hope to adopt, and your flexibility with travel. This will help determine which of MLJ Adoptionsâ country programs could be a good fit for your family. Even if you have no clue how to pick a country program, the Initial Consultation can help identify where to start.
MLJ Adoptionsâ Outreach Coordinator will also be able to share information on trends that our families are seeing in our programs, stability in the country, what a family can expect to encounter on their trip(s) and logical next steps. A family can choose to move forward with their adoption process immediately after their Initial Consultation, but for some families, the phone call or in-person meeting happens years before they decide to move forward with an adoption. There are a few families who, after learning more information, are able to determine that international adoption isnât a good fit for them at all.  The goal of the Initial Consultation is to give families a greater understanding of the process and more resources with which to make this important decision.
After the phone call or meeting, the Outreach Coordinator will send follow-up information that includes our Financial Resources Guide, and Referral Timeframe Information, and family references from whom you can learn more.
Making the decision to adopt internationally is a huge one, but itâs our hope and goal that by having an Initial Consultation, your
family will feel better prepared with necessary information.
