Caitlin SnyderName: Caitlin Snyder

Title at MLJ: Administrative Assistant

What do you actually DO with MLJ? I am responsible for answering the phones, processing applications and adoption contracts, and communicating with prospective clients. I also keep the calendar up to date.

What is your favorite part about what you do with MLJ? I love learning about adoption, and meeting prospective families. Since MLJ has eight different international adoption programs, it is cool to hear why different families are drawn to the various programs, and to be able to work with them and figure out which program is best for them.

How long have you worked with MLJ: Since the beginning of September.

What do you think makes you excellent at what you do? I love people. I enjoy hearing their stories and learning about them. I am eager to be part of the MLJ team as we partner with families going through the exciting adventure of adoption. I don’t think my cheerfulness or excitement over talking on the phone will hurt me in my job, either!

What do you love about adoption? I have had the privilege of being raised by two of the best parents I know. They have set a great example for me and reminded me every day just how special I am. I love that adoption gives the same opportunity to children everywhere, even if their biological parents cannot support them. I also love that adoption is truly mutually beneficial. Parents receive the chance to learn from their children and children receive the love and care that they deserve.

If you could change one thing about adoption what would it be, why, and how? I wish the process was more affordable. The cost is very intimidating and often prevents great families from pursuing international adoptions.

What is one thing you wish more people understood about the adoption process? There is so much involved in the adoption process, including governments in other countries that can slow down the process. So much is out of the control of agencies and individuals which can make the timeline and process frustrating.

What do you want to tell us about your family? I have a younger brother (12) and a younger sister (20). My family lives in Cincinnati, Ohio and my sister attends college in Tennessee. We enjoy spending time together, especially on family vacations.

When not working, what do you do for fun or to relax? I love running, reading, working out, volunteering and spending time with friends.

Any other fun, interesting facts about you? I lived in Japan for 4.5 years growing up!
