We are so happy to announce the opening of our Mexico program! MLJ is currently one of only six adoption agencies in the United States that has approval from Mexico’s Central Authority, Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF). MLJ will open our new Pilot Program for Mexico on September 1, 2013.

Who Can Adopt From Mexico?

  • Married couples and single women may adopt from Mexico.
  • The adopting parent(s) must be over 25 years of age and at least 17 years older than the child. DIF Hidalgo requires that couples must have been married at least three years when submitting their dossier.

All adoptions are completed through a collaborative effort with a Mexican lawyer working directly with DIF, a Mexican government agency authorizing all domestic and international adoptions. DIF will ensure that children to be adopted have been abandoned and no biological family members are willing and able to care for them.

The Children Able To Be Adopted

Mexican children available for adoption range from infants to fifteen years old. We ask that our Mexican families be open to children five and older, and sibling groups where one child is over five or special needs. Both boys and girls are available for adoption, gender preference can be indicated.

  • Children are generally healthy and receive proper nutrition and medical care while in the DIF or Interim Care.
  • Children are typically of Mestizo ancestry.

MLJ will be initially working within the state of Hidalgo. We have met with DIF Hidalgo many times and have found them to be very child centered, as well as adoption friendly. Hidalgo is approximately an hour and a half from Mexico City and is a beautiful and historic state. The capital city is Pachuca, it has a very modern feel as well as some great historical monuments.

Upon my trips to Mexico, I found it to be a beautiful and very diverse country and the people there were so friendly. Nicole Skellenger, the chief operations director of MLJ Adoptions, Inc. and I were able to visit three orphanages during one of our initial trip. The orphanages were well staffed and the children well cared for! I look forward to working in Mexico and making a difference in the lives of children and families!
